  • Dr. Neil Gershenfeld is the creator of the Fab Lab concept and director of the Center for Bits and Atoms.

  • "Fab Lab" is an abbreviation for Fabrication Laboratory.
  • A basic Fab Lab is comprised of a group of off-the-shelf, industrial-grade fabrication and electronics tools, wrapped in open source software developed by researchers at the MIT Center for Bits and Atoms.
